Albuqerque Fun

We spent the week in Albuquerque with my parents. Dallin, Mia and I flew up on Tuesday. We're taking off tomorrow to go meet John in the woods and camp for the night. It's been a busy week! Tuesday we shopped with Grandma and played with all kinds of toys. They have all the fun ones - Lincoln Logs, Tonka trucks, Legos, and Tinker Toys. Wednesday we went hiking at Tent Rock National Monument. That was SOOOO cool! I didn't know that there was something like that in New Mexico. The rock formations were really cool, but the best part was the canyon; tight sandstone cliffs with a little path in between and lots of cool nooks and crannies. We picnic ed in the rocks and then headed home for dinner.

Dallin thought it would be fun to bury my parents' dog, Babe, while making a sandcastle.
See the Macho Man below... Thursday we woke up bright and early (4:30am) and got out to the International Balloon Fiesta. It was odd shaped balloon day. It was SO much fun! Mia was nice and warm in her sling again - love that thing - and Dallin made Grandpa carry him all morning. After the first balloons took off, the competition began. Then the more normal balloons raced to tag a stick for a $2000 prize. They also tried to drop sandbags near a flag for more prizes. It was really cool to watch them fly past us and then quickly drop and ascend again and circle around again. It was fun. After that we went to the Children's Museum in Albuquerque. Dallin had so much fun! He especially liked the exhibits to do with erosion and music. They also had life size Lincoln Logs on a patio. We built a house Dallin-sized.

Mia was nice and comfy warm in her sling and a stylish hat.

This morning we took off for Bandelier National Monument. So cool! There are little houses carved out of the cliffs. We walked all over until Dallin was too exhausted. Note - no dogs allowed. My parents' poor dog had to wait in the car. Dallin finally got what we were looking at on the way out at the visitor's center where they had some dioramas. Mia did a great job - no fear of heights. Dallin kept telling me, "This is gonna be scary!" We climbed 140ft on ladders to a kiva in a cave up in the cliff. Really amazing. So for those of you who have never been to New Mexico, you are missing out! We barely scratched the surface and it was just amazing.

Sounds like a fun weekend! I miss your parents! I have so many great memories with the Baumers. I totally wish Austin and Dallin could get a chance to play together!

That balloon festival looks awesome. Are you going to be able to come to the harp concert this Sat. night on campus?! It's in the music building I think. I'd love to see you.

I remember going to a balloon festival when I was younger, great memories and fun! I bet Dallin had a blast. We are supposed to be going to the pumpkin patch tomorrow, we will see how that goes.

totally amazing Mandy. We have often talked of going to the balloon festival. We definitely need to do it. I can't believe how fast Mia is growing. We are anxious to come see, hold, and love on her!
